Keeping Safe in 1-2-1 Lessons
After six months of living away, I returned to Bristol in September and have been fortunate to be back teaching 1-2-1 lessons with all my students whilst gaining some new ones. The steps I have taken to keep myself and students safe in lessons are as follows:
- Wearing a mask indoors, unless I can keep a 2m distance.
- Asking for windows to be opened.
- Bringing hand sanitiser to use before handling objects – for example right before tuning a student’s instrument.
- Using the violin bow to point at sheet music rather than my hand. This enables me to stand back from the music stand.
- Keeping my distance when children are playing and limiting close contact.
- Using my own pen to write notes in their practise journals
- Reminding students to wash hands after the lesson, especially if they have chosen a sticker as a reward.
