Since I can remember, violin playing has been a central part of my life . I began learning the violin at age 4 in Malta, my country of origin. At 11 my family moved to Surrey, England where I first had the opportunity to join a youth orchestra. During sixth form I was the co-leader of both the Surrey County Youth orchestra and Stoneleigh youth orchestra. I also founded my college’s first string group where I tutored players in ensemble work and conducted the group in various school performances.
After completing my violin exams including my ABRSM Violin Diploma, I attended the University of Bristol to do a music degree. I was a member of various ensembles and played in classical concerts, operas and as a soloist.
Besides taking on performance as a final year project, which I gained a first in, I also pursued composition and modules on Music and Film, a great passion of mine.
Since graduating in 2018, I have done a variety of music teaching, including PPA cover music classes, running lunchtime and afterschool clubs in ukulele, guitar and music appreciation, and whole class ensemble teaching in violin and ukulele. In July 2022 I also ran the music appreciation programme for KS1 students at first Surrey Summer Music School.
My favourite role has been teaching the violin to individuals and small groups, which I currently do in various primary schools. To help pursue this further, in December 2021 I obtained an ABRSM Diploma in instrumental teaching.
It has been an ambition of mine to eventually set up a violin school in Bristol and this is slowly coming to place with the support of my current students who have been wonderful to work with.
In my spare time, I enjoy painting, cycling (I cycle to most of my lessons) going for long walks around Bristol, and watching films.
